Tata Steel’s Ludhiana plant to start ops in March: Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has said that Tata Steel’s mega manufacturing plant in Ludhiana will begin operations in March, lending a boost to the state’s industrial sector.The CM said this at a meeting with a Tata Steel delegation, including vice-president (long products) Ashish Anupam and senior corporate affairs representatives.Tata Steel Limited is setting up a 0.75 MTPA electric arc furnace-based steelmaking facility along with a rebar mill near HiTech Valley in Ludhiana. Spread over 115 acres, the project’s initial investment of Rs 2,600 crore has been revised to Rs 3,200 crore.The plant is expected to generate employment for around 2,500 persons.Mann said the unit would use 100 per cent steel scrap as raw material and adopt a sustainable production process. He said the electric arc furnace route significantly reduces carbon emissions compared to conventional blast furnace technology.The CM said the state government facilitated the project in a time-bound manner, reflecting its industry-friendly policies.
