The Diplomat Movie Review & Release Live update: John Abraham starrer off to slow start at box office on Holi weekend

After playing the baddie opposite Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Pathaan’, John Abraham returns to the big screen in ‘The Diplomat’. The film is a gripping action-drama inspired by true events. Starring John in the lead role of an Indian diplomat on a daring mission to rescue an Indian woman from Pakistan, the film directed by Shivam Nair, promises to deliver a high-intensity narrative, blending political intrigue, emotional depth, and realistic action sequences. John, known for his dedication to authenticity, underwent extensive preparation for the role. Ahead of the release of the film, he revealed that he attended workshops and closely observed the real-life Indian diplomat JP Singh, who served as an inspiration for his character. Recalling his experience of meeting Singh on set, Abraham shared, “J.P. Singh sir came on set, and I observed his body language, the way he spoke—very sweet, simple, but you could tell he thinks ten moves ahead, like in a game of chess.” To perfect his portrayal, Abraham also trained under renowned acting coach Saurabh Sachdeva, refining his body language, dialogue delivery, and overall persona to match the intelligence and composure required of a diplomat. He likened this transformation to his performances in ‘Madras Cafe’, ‘No Smoking’, and ‘Parmanu’, where he successfully stepped into intense and complex roles. Alongside Abraham, actress Sadia Khateeb plays a pivotal role in the film. She expressed excitement about The Diplomat, particularly due to the bond she developed with Abraham over their shared love for motorcycles. She fondly recalled how she had been fascinated with bikes since watching Dhoom as a child and was thrilled to discover the actor’s impressive collection in his garage. She even jokingly asked him to gift her a bike if the film performed well, to which Abraham playfully agreed. With its strong performances, real-world inspirations, and thrilling storyline, The Diplomat is poised to be an engaging cinematic experience. Slated for release on March 14, coinciding with the Holi weekend, the film is expected to cash in on the extended weekend and score a box office win. However, according to early estimates, the film might just open to numbers ranging between Rs 2-2.5 crore.
