One of the oldest publications in the country, The Tribune, on Monday marked a historic milestone of 145 years of its founding, with The Tribune Trust President NN Vohra leading tributes to its Founder Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia on the Founder’s Day.Sardar Majithia founded The Tribune on February 2, 1881, in Lahore, laying the foundation of a newspaper that has since grown into a trusted voice of North India for generations.Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartiest congratulations and best wishes to everyone associated with the publication on the momentous occasion. “During the course of this journey, the editors, journalists, staff and most importantly, its readers have collectively shaped its legacy,” he said in his message.Vohra was joined by Trustees Justice SS Sodhi (retd), Gurbachan Jagat and Paramjit Singh Patwalia, along with Editor-in-Chief of The Tribune Group of Newspapers Jyoti Malhotra, General Manager Amit Sharma, Dainik Tribune Editor Naresh Kaushal and Punjabi Tribune Editor Arvinder Pal Kaur in paying tributes. Hundreds of employees of the newspaper group also remembered the founder.An impressive function on The Tribune premises in Sector 29 marked the celebrations, reflecting on the institution’s long and eventful journey spanning nearly a century and a half.In his message, Vohra said on the joyous occasion of the 145th anniversary of its Founding Day, The Tribune could look back with justifiable pride and satisfaction. Despite innumerable challenges over the decades, he said, the newspaper continued to stand “straight and tall”, fearlessly voicing people’s concerns and championing the causes of over 80 million residents of North India. Paying homage to Sardar Majithia, Vohra described him as a visionary patriot, educationist, social reformer and great philanthropist.Greetings also poured in from Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria and the Chief Ministers of Punjab Bhagwant Singh Mann, Haryana Nayab Singh Saini, Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah and Himachal Pradesh Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.Meanwhile, the Tribune Employees’ Union celebrated its 45th year of foundation. Trust President Vohra, the Trustees, the Editor-in-Chief, the General Manager and the Editors were welcomed at the union office by union president Anil Kumar Gupta and general secretary Ruchika M Khanna, where floral tributes were again paid to Sardar Majithia and employees were congratulated.
