Trinamool Congress MPs on Thursday protested against rising LPG cylinder prices in Parliament by banging plates and spoons. Meanwhile, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw said at a time when the nation was facing a crisis, all political parties, irrespective of ideologies, should come together and think of a solution, rather than playing petty politics. The TMC MPs protest began when BJP MP Jagdambika Pal initiated the discussion on supplementary demands for grants for 2025-26 in the Lok Sabha. As he touched upon the issue of the overall economic scenario of the country and claimed the country was better placed than compared to 2014 on several indices, TMC MPs started shouting “LPG! LPG!” from their seats. As Pal continued to speak, the women MPs from the TMC, namely Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Mahua Moitra and Satabdi Roy, along with some Congress women MPs, started moving towards the Well banging plates and spoons.BJP MP Sandhya Ray, who was adjudicating the proceedings, asked them to stop, leading to Vaishnaw’s intervention.“At a time when the world is facing a crisis (the Persian Gulf conflict), the entire country and political parties should try and resolve the problem. Whenever the nation faces a problem, everybody should unite, and not indulge in petty politics,” he said amid the chaos.Owing to the Gulf crisis, LPG cylinder prices have been sky rocketing, while rampant black marketing in cities across the country have led to acute shortage of cylinders.
