US President Donald Trump has extended the deadline for potential strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure by 10 days, pushing it to April 6, 2026.The original deadline was set to end on Friday. The US and Isreal have refrained from hitting Iran’s energy infrastructure during this period as part of deal.In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said: “As per Iranian Government request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 P.M., Eastern Time.”“Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media, and others, they are going very well,” he added.Later, in a video aired by US media group Fox News, Trump stated: “I gave them a 10-day period, they asked for seven.”The two sides are currently in negotiations toward a peace deal. Both have proposed separate set of ‘rules’ for future conduct in the Gulf region, including the operation of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.Meanwhile, Trump claimed that the US had already achieved victory in the war, adding: “In a certain sense, we have already won.”On Thursday, senior officials of the Department of War had briefed the House Armed Forces Committee of the US Congress on the possibility of deploying ground troops. The US has also been building up its forces in the region.Earlier, Trump had urged Iranian leaders to “get serious” about the peace deal or face further assassinations of senior officials amid intensified action by the US and Israel. That threat came hours after Israel announced that it had “blown up and eliminated” Revolutionary Guards naval commander Alireza Tangsiri, along with several senior officers, in a strike on the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas. Tangsiri was responsible for the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.Iran has strenuously denied it is “begging to make a deal”, as Trump claimed, and continued retaliatory strikes across parts of the Middle East.Western media houses also have reported hearing loud explosions in Tel Aviv.
