US President Donald Trump has extended the deadline for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz by 10 days to April 6 even as Iran and Israel launched a fresh wave of attacks at each other. As Israel threatened to “escalate and expand” its attacks, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) issued a fresh warning to citizens in neighbouring West Asian countries, asking them to “leave areas” where the US has bases. The Iranians further said the Hormuz route was closed to vessels travelling “to and from” ports belonging to allies and supporters of the US and Israel. As his five-day deadline drew to a close, Trump in a social media post said: “As per Iranian Government request, I am pausing the period of energy plant destruction by 10 days to Monday, April 6 at 8 pm (eastern time).”“Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the fake news media and others, they are going very well,” Trump said. The two sides are in negotiations for a peace deal and have proposed their own set of “rules” for future conduct in the Gulf region and how the Strait of Hormuz will operate for shipping.Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz on Friday accused Iran of hitting civilian areas and added attacks on Iran “will escalate and expand… They will pay heavy, increasing prices for this war crime”.The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) also claimed they carried out strikes on Iran’s central site for producing missiles and sea mines. Guided by military intelligence and the navy’s intelligence flotilla, the IDF said they struck the site established in the city of Yazd. The site was used for planning, development, assembly and storage of advanced missiles designed for launch from cruise vessels, submarines and helicopters towards mobile and stationary maritime targets, the IDF said.In Tehran, the IRGC announced the launch of the 83rd wave of “Operation True Promise 4”, which targeted key American and Israeli military installations across the region with advanced missiles and drones. It also struck American military bases at Al-Dhafra and Al-Udeiri.Meanwhile, the Consulate of Iran in Mumbai has expressed gratitude towards India, Pakistan, Spain and Germany for showing “support and solidarity” during its 83rd wave of missile response to the US and Israel. While it didn’t give details, it was apparently referring to New Delhi’s diplomatic support.
