Two have since been discharged, police later confirmed.
Counter terrorism officers are part of the investigation into what happened, which is “common practice” for an incident of this nature. It does not mean they believe it is terror-related and they are still investigating potential motives, the force said.
A spokesperson for Derbyshire Constabulary said: “Seven people were injured during the incident and sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries. All were taken to hospital and two have since been discharged.”The suspect was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, causing serious injury through dangerous driving, inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent, and dangerous driving, Derbyshire Police said.
He was held on the other side of the city centre seven minutes after the incident, Derby’s police lead, Chief Superintendent Emma Aldred, said on Sunday. It was a “horrific incident” that has “shocked the city”, she told reporters. The man lives in the city and has been in the UK for a number of years, but is originally from India.

The force said it is thought the suspect drove off along Friar Gate away from the city centre, towards Ashbourne Road, then into Bridge Street, Lodge Lane towards Five Lamps, Garden Street and Duffield Road before going into St Alkmund’s Way.The visibly damaged vehicle was then stopped by police a short time later at Station Approach, the force said.
