U.S. Coast Guard searches for missing passenger after small airplane crashes in northern California




The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for one person after a small aircraft they were on crashed in Monterey, California, on Saturday night.The Coast Guard received a notification at around 10:55 p.m. that a twin-engine Beechcraft with three people aboard crashed approximately 300 yards away from the Point Pinos Lighthouse off the Pacific Coast. The aircraft originally took off from San Carlos Airport in San Mateo County.”Station Monterey launched a 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew, which arrived on scene approximately 15 minutes after notification,” the Coast Guard said in a news release. “Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Francisco also coordinated the launch of an Air Station San Francisco MH-65 Dolphin helicopter air crew.”Two of the three people were found “unresponsive,” the Coast Guard said, not specifying the meaning of unresponsive in this case.The search continues for the remaining person, the Coast Guard said. Local agencies, including the Pacific Grove Police Department, Monterey Fire Department and San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, are assisting in the search.”Currently this is an active investigation, so we are not releasing information at this time,” Pacific Grove police told Jattvibe News.The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash. It did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
