The Centre on Friday said that it was unable to execute key major railway projects in Punjab, including the ambitious Ferozepur-Patti project, strategically located near the international border, due to the sluggish support of the state government.Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, in a written reply, to the Rajya Sabha said that three other major rail projects — the Alal-Himmatana Chord Line, the Qadian-Beas New Line and the Rama Mandi (Raman)-Talwandi Sabo New Line — have also been delayed. The minister attributed the delays to issues related to land acquisition. The question was posed by Satnam Singh Sandhu, Rajya Sabha MP.Given the prolonged delay in executing this crucial project, the Ministry of Railways has decided to fund and carry out the Ferozepur-Patti new line on its own. The 18-km Rajpura-Mohali new line project has recently been approved at a cost of Rs 443 crore, and the land acquisition process is now underway. The minister said as of April 1, 2025, nine railway projects in Punjab were at various stages of planning, approval or execution.
