Former acting president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee and ex-Punjab Cabinet minister Lal Singh passed away here on Saturday following multiple health ailments.The veteran leader was a thoroughbred Congress politician who remained loyal to the party through thick and thin. His son, Rajinder Singh, served as MLA from Samana during a previous regime.A six-time MLA, Lal Singh was regarded as a stalwart of Punjab’s Congress unit, maintaining close ties with leaders across party lines. His political acumen ensured that he commanded respect regardless of who held the Chief Minister’s office during past Congress governments.Lal Singh had been working for the Sanaur constituency for the past 45 years. He first contested from the constituency in 1977.Almost 83 years old, Lal Singh had been admitted to a Mohali hospital for some time prior to his demise.
