Walkathon in Kolkata raises awareness about chronic kidney disease




A walkathon titled ‘Walk for health, walk for your kidneys’ was held in Kolkata to raise awareness about chronic kidney disease (CKD) and its prevention. The event saw the participation of over 400 people, including public figures like Consulate of Maldives RamKrishna Jaiswal, actor Arindam Sil, among others.Dr Pratim Sengupta, MD & CEO, Nephro Care India Limited, addressed the participants, and said that kidney disease affects one in eleven people in India, with diabetes, hypertension, and excessive use of painkillers being the primary causes. He stressed the importance of early detection and lifestyle changes to prevent kidney damage.The walkathon also highlighted the role of regular exercise and a balanced diet in maintaining kidney health. Participants walked to promote the message of physical activity as a simple yet effective way to reduce the risk of kidney disease.
