Was NTPC DGM mistakenly killed? Cops quiz over a dozen | India News

RANCHI/HAZARIBAG/CHATRA: Jharkhand police’s SIT has questioned more than a dozen people in connection with the killing of NTPC deputy general manager Kumar Gaurav in Hazaribag, while investigators explored the possibility that he was mistakenly targeted as he had taken a vehicle usually used by another officer, officials said Sunday.Gaurav, a 42-year-old Bihar native, was shot dead Saturday in what officials suspect was a targeted attack linked to the region’s coal mining mafia. Notorious for coal-related violence, Hazaribag has seen the killings of four mining-sector officials in five years.Family members and NTPC colleagues said Gaurav had not received any threats or been involved in any disputes. He had been with NTPC for two years and is survived by his elderly mother, wife Preeti Suman, and an 11-year-old daughter.Hazaribag SP Arvind Kumar said seven people had been detained, but no arrests had been made. “The investigation is being conducted from all possible angles, including a study of the victim’s phone records to determine potential threats,” he said.Gaurav was on his way to work at NTPC’s Keredari coal mines when two men on a motorcycle intercepted his car on Hazaribag-Barkagaon road and opened fire, police said.
