India on Wednesday intensified its diplomatic engagement with key global powers as the conflict in West Asia continued to escalate, with External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar holding consultations with counterparts from the European Union, France and Russia to exchange assessments on the rapidly evolving situation.Jaishankar held a discussion with Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, on the implications of the conflict and its broader geopolitical repercussions. “Useful discussion with EU HRVP Kaja Kallas on the West Asia conflict and its repercussions,” Jaishankar said in a post on X.The External Affairs Minister also spoke with Jean-Noel Barrot, describing the exchange as a constructive assessment of the ongoing crisis. “Appreciate the exchange of assessments today with FM Jean-Noël Barrot of France on the West Asia conflict. Look forward to continuing it in person,” he noted, indicating that further high-level engagement between the two sides is expected. In a separate conversation, Jaishankar held a telephonic discussion with Sergey Lavrov, during which the two leaders reviewed diplomatic efforts related to the conflict and also took stock of the broader India-Russia bilateral agenda.“A good telecon with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov of Russia. Shared our assessments on the West Asia conflict and related diplomatic efforts. Also took stock of our bilateral cooperation agenda,” Jaishankar said. The flurry of conversations underscores New Delhi’s efforts to remain closely engaged with major global stakeholders as tensions in the region threaten to widen the conflict and disrupt energy markets, trade routes and the safety of Indian nationals in the Gulf.India has been maintaining active diplomatic outreach with countries across West Asia and major international partners amid concerns that the ongoing hostilities could further destabilise the region and impact global oil supplies. Officials said consultations with key partners will continue as New Delhi monitors developments and calibrates its diplomatic response.
