While some cities are drenched in heavy rains others are experiencing unusually warm conditions, the weather has been behaving unpredictably these past few days.According to meteorologists, the reason lies in a rare weather system that is stretching nearly 1,000 km across the region and there is an unusual western disturbance that is currently active over the region. The effect is not only limited to India, but parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan are also witnessing unstable weather conditions. What’s different? Its trough — a long area of low pressure — is stretched in an almost straight line that’s amplifying the storm intensity. And this rare formation is bringing intense thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds with it.The active western disturbance, currently seen as an upper-air cyclonic circulation over northern Pakistan, is influencing weather across northwest India.Another western disturbance around March 22Weather officials say the disturbance will hit the western Himalayas and nearby plains till Friday, though its intensity is expected to weaken gradually. Another weaker western disturbance is likely to approach around March 22.Climate experts say the unusual rain band is a reminder that weather patterns are becoming increasingly unpredictable.
