A high-end Lamborghini supercar, approx. Rs 8.7 crore cost, allegedly driven by Shivam Mishra lost control and rammed into pedestrians and vehicles on Kanpur’s busy VIP Road on Sunday afternoon, leaving at least six people injured. The incident occurred around 3.15 pm near Rev-3 Mall, triggering panic among residents and motorists in the area.According to eyewitnesses, the luxury car was moving at high speed when the driver appeared to lose control, hitting multiple vehicles and pedestrians before coming to a halt. Emergency services rushed to the spot, and the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals. Their condition is reported to be stable.Police later identified the driver as Shivam Mishra, son of prominent tobacco businessman KK Mishra. Shivam is associated with the Banshidhar Group, a business conglomerate with interests in tobacco exports. Visuals from the scene showed the damaged Lamborghini surrounded by crowds, with tensions running high as locals confronted those accompanying the driver. Some eyewitnesses alleged that Shivam Mishra may have been under the influence at the time of the crash. However, police officials said medical test results are awaited and no confirmation has been made so far. It was also alleged that Mishra’s security personnel attempted to shield him from the public after the accident, further angering bystanders.Shivam Mishra has previously drawn attention for his lavish lifestyle, including ownership of multiple luxury cars reportedly worth over Rs 60 crore, many bearing the same registration number “4018”. His family has remained in the public eye due to past financial investigations. His father, KK Mishra, is a well-known tobacco merchant whose firm, Banshidhar Exports Pvt Ltd, supplies raw materials to several gutkha manufacturers across India. The family’s business empire spans multiple states. In 2024, the Income Tax Department conducted multi-state raids on premises linked to the Mishra family and the Banshidhar Group. The searches were part of an investigation into alleged tax evasion and financial irregularities. Officials reportedly seized unaccounted cash, luxury vehicles, high-value jewellery, expensive watches, and documents pointing to discrepancies between declared income and actual assets. Investigators also examined suspected offshore transactions and manipulated financial records.Although the final outcome of the income tax probe has not been officially disclosed, the raids placed the Mishra family under intense scrutiny well before Sunday’s accident.Following the Kanpur crash, police have taken the Lamborghini into custody and said an FIR will be registered after completing preliminary procedures. Locals have protested what they claim is a delay in action due to the family’s influence, while authorities maintain that the case will be handled strictly according to law.
