Women leaders and researchers are increasingly playing a key role in Punjab’s efforts to tackle air pollution and climate change.In Amritsar, civic leaders including Indu Aurora, Nidhi Sindhwani, Shweta Mehra and Dr Amrita Rana have been working with women’s groups such as Clean Air Punjab and Saanjh Punjab to raise awareness and advocate for cleaner air.Their initiatives have also intersected with civic campaigns such as Chalo Amritsar, a city-wide initiative led by Samita Kaur of Vatrukh organisation that promotes sustainable urban practices. Another prominent voice in the state’s environmental movement is Supreet Kaur, who has been working with EcoSikh to promote community-based climate solutions.Meanwhile, research institutions such as Punjab Agricultural University and Khalsa College for Women continue to contribute to Punjab’s climate response through scientific studies and environmental research.
