Union Minister of State (MoS) for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol on Friday said the process of preparing the final investigation report into the plane crash near Baramati, which killed Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others, had begun, even as the authorities continue parallel probes into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.Speaking to reporters in Pune, Mohol said the preliminary findings into the crash had already been submitted as mandated under the Aviation Safety Rules, and the detailed final report was now under preparation. He said that it would not be appropriate to comment on the conclusions of the probe until the final investigation report is completed and made public.“As per the provisions, a preliminary report in any plane crash has to be submitted within a month of the incident. In this case, the preliminary report has already been submitted. Since multiple agencies are carrying out investigations, work on the final report has now begun,” Mohol said. The crash occurred on the morning of January 28 when a Learjet 45 aircraft operated by VSR Ventures went down near the Baramati airstrip in Maharashtra.A 22-page preliminary report released by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) had flagged adverse operational conditions at the time of the crash. According to the report, visibility around the airstrip had dropped below the minimum level required for safe operations. Investigators also noted that the runway markings had faded significantly and that loose gravel was present on the runway surface, factors that may have affected landing conditions.Parallel to the aviation safety probe, the Maharashtra Crime Investigation Department is also conducting a criminal investigation to determine whether sabotage or negligence played any role in the incident. Officials said the focus of the CID inquiry is to examine operational lapses, maintenance issues and other circumstances that may have contributed to the crash.Working with MEA, MHA for return of Indians stranded in West Asia: MoholMeanwhile, Mohol also addressed concerns over Indian nationals stranded in parts of the West Asia amid the ongoing crisis. He said the Centre was coordinating efforts across ministries to ensure the safe return of affected citizens. The Ministries of External Affairs, Civil Aviation and Home Affairs are working together to facilitate the movement of Indians back to the country, he said.“Our citizens are gradually returning to India. For those who remain stranded, Indian embassy officials are assisting them with arrangements related to accommodation and food,” Mohol said.
