A 15-and-a-half-year-old Class 9 student, gave birth to a baby boy at a nursing home in Phillaur after complaining of severe abdominal pain. Her family was shocked to learn the same day that she was nine months pregnant. The Bilga police in Jalandhar have booked a boy from Amritsar, reportedly her classmate and neighbour at her former locality, for alleged rape.A case was registered against the boy under Section 6 (sexual assault) of the POCSO Act and Section 65(1) (rape of a minor) of the BNS Act at the Bilga police station in Jalandhar on April 20.The girl’s aunt, a domestic worker residing in Pwadra village, Bilga, stated in her complaint that her niece, the younger daughter of her brother, had originally lived in Amritsar. The girl had been staying with her for the past seven months following her father’s death.The aunt said the girl’s mother had left the family 13 years ago. After the father’s death, she brought the girl to her home in Bilga. The aunt added that the girl first complained of abdominal pain one and a half months ago and was taken to a doctor in Nurmahal, where she was prescribed medicine.On April 19, after the girl reported acute stomach pain again, her aunt took her to a hospital. They were referred to a nursing home in Phillaur, where the complainant was shocked to discover that her niece was pregnant and in labour. The 15-and-a-half-year-old delivered a baby boy the same day.According to the FIR registered by the Bilga police, when questioned by her aunt, the girl said that a boy from her Class 9 in Amritsar, who was also her neighbour, had forced himself on her and raped her. Based on the family’s complaint, an FIR was registered at the Bilga police station on April 20.Officials said the girl was discharged from the hospital after a couple of days of treatment and returned to her aunt’s home. DSP, Phillaur, Bharat Masih said, “The alleged rape took place in Amritsar. After a zero FIR was registered at Bilga, the case has been sent to the E Division police station in Amritsar for further investigation and to trace the boy.”Harmanbir Singh, SHO of E Division, Amritsar, said he had not received any intimation or application regarding the case so far.
