The Border Security Force (BSF) and the Intelligence Wing of the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Fazilka, in a joint operation, recovered 30 kg of heroin from two alleged smugglers on Shahtirwala Road in Fazilka district on Friday at 11.10 pm.According to the FIR, Inspector Satindeep Singh Brar, along with other personnel of the SSOC, Fazilka, and personnel of the 55 Battalion of the BSF, was patrolling the area when they received specific information and intercepted two persons travelling on a motorcycle.During a search, 53 packets containing heroin, packed in a gunny bag, were recovered from their possession.The arrested accused have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Walleshah Uttar village, and Manpreet Singh, a resident of New Hasta Kalan village in Fazilka district.Sources said the accused were allegedly in contact with smugglers based in Pakistan and used to receive heroin smuggled from the neighbouring country.The duo has been booked under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act by the SSOC, Fazilka. A police official said the backward and forward links of the alleged drug smuggling network would be investigated.In another operation, the BSF and Punjab Police recovered a Pakistani drone, arms and ammunition from an agricultural field in the border village of Tahliwala in Fazilka district.Sources said that after receiving information about a drone lying in the fields, BSF and Punjab Police personnel cordoned off the area and launched a search operation that continued for several hours.During the search, they recovered a Pakistani drone, a China-made pistol, two magazines and four cartridges.The drone is suspected to have crashed into the paddy fields due to a technical snag, leading to the recovery of the arms and ammunition.
