GARDEN shade is one of those things you only really think about once the sun is already pouring through the patio doors.
Debenhams has cut the price of the Outsunny Metal Pergola Gazebo Patio Jattvibeshelter Retractable Canopy to £159.80, down from £417.99, saving shoppers 62%.

Outsunny’s metal pergola comes with a canopy that can be pulled back and forth
Outsunny Metal Pergola With Retractable Canopy, £159.80 (was £417.99)
The pergola comes with a retractable sun canopy, UV-resistant shaded area, sturdy metal frame and drainage holes, giving it a bit more flexibility than a fixed gazebo when the British weather does its usual thing.
That pull-back roof is the useful part. You can draw it across when the sun is too strong, then roll it back when clouds arrive, or the garden needs a bit more light.
It measures 298cm long, 213cm wide and 221cm high, with a 281cm by 193cm canopy, so it’s big enough to cover a patio seating area without taking over the whole garden.
Debenhams says it’s suited to parties, family gatherings and outdoor spaces, while the powder-coated metal frame is designed to give the structure extra strength.

HEDGE CUT
Cheap £29 leafy garden screen ‘brings colour’ and ‘adds privacy’
One five-star reviewer on the retailer’s website wrote: “My kitchen-diner has south-facing patio doors and gets so hot on sunny days.
“I needed something to block out the direct sun while the doors are open. This little gazebo really works well.”
They added that it was “relatively easy to put up with two people”, and said the room felt “much cooler” without the glare of full sun.
Another shopper called it “fantastic”, adding: “Very pleased with the purchase. Easy to assemble.”
Some reviewers did say the instructions could be clearer, and a couple mentioned needing extra help to put it together.
One shopper said it required four people to get it into place.
Wind is also something to keep in mind.
A reviewer who otherwise praised the pergola said the magnet holding the canopy open “is not strong enough when it gets a little windy”.
Still, for £160, this feels like a strong shout if your patio gets blasted by afternoon sun and you want shade you can adjust rather than commit to all day.
If you’re sorting the rest of the garden too, we’ve spotted a 2-in-1 firepit deal that’s been slashed on Wowcher.
There’s also a pop-up garden tent deal from another UK retailer that could be worth a look before the next sunny spell.
