An SAD leader and former sarpanch of Khane Ki Dhabh village here has alleged that an unidentified person set fire to his ready-to-harvest wheat crop spread over 56 acres on Monday.Complainant Raghbir Singh said the accused arrived in a car with the front registration number plate missing and the rear plate folded. He alleged that the miscreant set the crop on fire by throwing sparklers before fleeing the spot.“Some villagers claimed to have seen the occupants of a Ritz car escaping after the incident. Burnt sparklers were also recovered from the fields,” he added.Raghbir Singh further stated that the land had been taken on lease and that there were no live electricity wires near the fields. “The miscreant also attempted to burn the wheat crop in another of my fields, but the losses there were minimal,” he said.Alleging political vendetta behind the incident, he demanded a thorough probe. “I informed the police immediately, and a team visited the spot,” he said.Meanwhile, some village residents have condemned the incident and demanded compensation for the affected farmer.Farmer Raghbir Singh shows sparklers allegedly used to burn wheat crop in over 56 acres at Khane Ki Dhabh village in Muktsar district.
