MILLIONS of Brits are being warned of the seven obscure hosepipe ban rules that could see them slapped with a £1,000 fine.

Five water companies have introduced hosepipe bans this summer, as vast swathes of the UK come under restrictions.

The latest two firms to introduce bans – Affinity Water and Cambridge Water – will enforce their restrictions from tomorrow.

Affinity Water is imposing its ban across households in Surrey, Outer London and Hertfordshire.

After 30 years without regulations, Cambridge Water will rollout a temporary use ban to 350,000 households in Cambridge.

The water supplier said: “The temporary ban will come into effect immediately and will be enforceable from 1am on Friday, July 17.”

Other firms introducing hosepipe bans include South East Water, which covers Kent.

Households have been forced to restrict their water usage there since July 3.

Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, which is supplied by Southern Water, has been under a ban since July 10.

A spokeswoman for Anglian Water said the vast majority of its customers in the East of England have been playing their part by putting their hosepipes down.

They added: “In serious or repeated cases, customers could face a fine of up to £1,000, but we’re not at that stage with anyone yet.”
