The operating environment in Strait of Hormuz remains highly fluid, with a credible risk of further escalation. The cumulative impact is expected to strain global energy flows, disrupt supply chains and sustain elevated war risk premiums for insurance, according to an assessment done by Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR), hosted by the Navy, at Gurugram on Sunday. The centre has linkages with several countries having their representatives on board and more than 20 countries sharing data on commercial shipping to create a common picture. The IFC-IOR posted on X on Sunday, saying despite recent assurances that the Strait of Hormuz remained fully open, the imposition of a highly restricted and controlled transit regime has triggered immediate and widespread disruption across the global shipping network. The impact was instantaneous — multiple vessels executed abrupt U-turns, with tracking data indicating several vessels reversing course, underscoring the heightened volatility and uncertainty in this critical maritime chokepoint.
