The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Chandigarh, has directed a city-based salon to pay Rs 50,000 as compensation for delivering a deficient and unsatisfactory haircut, allegedly contrary to the client’s instructions.MP Bharara, a resident of Sector 21-B, Chandigarh, stated in his complaint that he availed services at Femina Plus Luxe, a salon located in Sector 9-C, Madhya Marg, for his granddaughter Saakshi on August 1, August 17, and October 17, 2025, for haircuts and treatment.He alleged that the salon’s negligent and unprofessional approach damaged his granddaughter’s long hair. According to the complaint, the haircut was uneven and poorly executed, causing distress and embarrassment. He termed it a clear case of deficiency in service under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.Bharara further stated that he paid Rs 22,000 for the services, but despite repeated requests, the salon failed to provide bills and refused to offer a refund or corrective treatment. He sought compensation of Rs 1 lakh for financial loss, mental harassment and further hair treatment.The salon, however, denied all allegations, calling the complaint fabricated and defamatory. It also argued that Bharara was not a consumer, as the bills were issued in the name of Saakshi Bharara. Additionally, it claimed that the bill submitted with the complaint was for Rs 7,640, not Rs 22,000.After hearing both sides, the Commission held the salon guilty of deficiency in service and directed it to pay a lump-sum compensation of Rs 50,000 within 45 days of receiving the certified copy of the order. Failing this, the amount will attract interest at 6 per cent per annum from the date of the order until realisation.
