Suspended DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar and his aide Kirshanu Sharda today opposed an application filed by the CBI for handing over their cellphones, laptops, cash and other items seized during the raid in a graft case. The CBI sought documents in a preliminary enquiry (PE) registered against unknown persons. The central agency claimed that it found involvement of several officers of Punjab and private persons during the investigation of the corruption case registered against Bhullar and Sharda last year.In a reply filed through his counsel, Bhullar said the CBI had yet not supplied copy of the compliant for registering the PE. Nor has any provision of law been cited under which the material was being sought to be taken over.Bhullar’s counsel said the application was not maintainable and the PE was illegal as it had been registered without following Section 17 A of the Prevention of Corruption Act.His counsel said it was necessary to arraign Punjab as a party to the application so as to prevent illegal exercising of jurisdiction by the CBI for politically motivated reasons. The CBI had nabbed Bhullar and Sharda on October 16, 2025, under Section 61(2) of the BNS and Sections 7 & 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, on the complaint of Mandi Gobindgarh scrap dealer Akash Batta.
