Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Randhawa has lodged a formal complaint with the Punjab Police’s Cyber Crime wing after a fabricated social media post falsely claimed that he had died in an accident. In his complaint addressed to the Additional Director General of Police (Cyber Crime), State Cyber Crime Cell, Mohali, Randhawa said the misleading post had been widely circulated across platforms, triggering panic and distress among the public, his family and associates. The MP alleged that the post fraudulently used the name and visual identity of ‘Rozana Spokesman’ to lend it credibility. However, upon verification, no such news had been published by the media organisation, indicating that the content was fabricated with the intent to mislead.Seeking urgent intervention, Randhawa urged the cyber cell to trace the origin and first source of the post and identify those responsible for creating and circulating it. He also called for immediate action against the culprits and directions to social media platforms to remove or block the content. The complaint further sought preventive measures to curb the spread of similar false and misleading information in the future.
