HISTORY tells us a Vauxhall hot hatch should be white, white or white.

Like the famous Dealer Team Vauxhalls in the Eighties. Like my old girl’s Mk2 Astra GTE. Like that 1987 Nova GTE.

The Corsa GSE meets all the technical requirements to be everything a hot hatch should be Credit:

For reasons I’ll never understand, Vauxhall rolled out the electric Mokka GSE last November in GREY.

Proper little firecracker but fifty shades of dull. I had to have a word about that.

Thankfully, Vauxhall listened because here’s the electric Corsa GSE looking resplendent in body-in-white.

Just as it should be.

The e-motor sends 281hp to the front wheels – almost twice the power of a regular Corsa Credit:

Bonus points for the Nova-inspired grey and yellow chequered seats and the GSE badge on the dash.

Technically, Corsa GSE is everything a hot hatch should be – quick-ratio steering, lowered suspension, stiffer springs, Torsen limited-slip diff, 18in alloys, beefy brakes.

The e-motor sends 281hp to the front wheels – almost twice the power of a regular Corsa – and it’ll box off the 0-62mph sprint in just 5.5 seconds.

Top speed is limited to 112mph. Range? About 220 miles.

Expect prices from £32k when it hits showrooms later this year Credit: Unknown

The legacy of the 1987 Nova GTE inspires the new Corsa GSE Credit:

For reference, the original Nova GTE was 100hp and a bantamweight 876kg.

Corsa GSE is 1,554kg. Batteries aren’t light.

Also worth noting. Corsa petrol won’t have a hot GSE version because it stands for Grand Sport Electric.

Vauxhall boss Eurig Druce said: “Corsa GSE proudly carries forward the legacy of models like Nova GTE, Corsa GSi and Corsa VXR – reimagined for a new electric generation.”

Expect prices from £32k when it hits showrooms later this year.
