Hughes, 52, had many scuffs and bruises during his 54 competitive fights.

25 of his bouts came in the UFC, in which he was viewed as one of the best welterweights in the octagon.

He has now suffered a new injury as he revealed a partial finger amputation on Instagram.

While in good spirits, he posted a gruesome picture of himself in a hospital bed holding up his hand.

It is not the worst injury Hughes has suffered since he announced his retirement from the octagon.

In June 2017 he was severely injured when a train hit his pickup truck at a crossing in his home state of Illinois.

He was left in a coma for 19 days, having suffered a severe traumatic brain injury.
