The DMK on Tuesday dismissed AIADMK leader CV Shanmugam’s claims of post-poll alliance talks between the two parties, accusing him of trying to create a “spilt” within his own party.Taking strong exception to his remark made earlier in the day, DMK organising secretary R S Bharati claimed that Shanmugam had decided to support Vijay-led TVK government and hence made the baseless charge on the DMK-AIADMK post- poll alliance talks.Refuting the charge, Bharati told reporters here that DMK president M K Stalin had already stated that the Dravidian major would function as an opposition party.”After the election results, we already clarified that these reports were speculation and rumours. This continues to be our stand,” Bharati added.Even in the Assembly, DMK legislature party leader Udhayanidhi Stalin made it clear that the DMK would function as an opposition party, he said.Tamil Nadu politics, Bharati said, was witnessing the party hopper culture and minority government seen in the north.Shanmugam’s attempt to blame the DMK was only to divert the people’s attention. Unlike other political parties, the DMK alone remained intact as a single entity, and it was not afraid of victory or defeat in elections. The DMK senior accused Shanmugam of being “power hungry” and said it remained to be seen if Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay who faced the April 23 Assembly election aiming to provide an alternate to the DMK and AIADMK, would admit the AIADMK faction in his alliance.Earlier, speaking to reporters, Shanmugam announcing the decision to part ways with the NDA and support the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government, claimed a proposal was put forth suggesting that an AIADMK government be formed with the support of the DMK. But a majority of the MLAs rejected the idea and decided to extend support to the TVK.”AIADMK will cease to exist if an alliance is formed with the DMK. We founded the party against the DMK. For 53 years our politics has been against the DMK,” Shanmugam said.
