MANCHESTER UNITED youngster Amir Ibragimov has been picked up by Russia – despite representing England youth.

The 18-year-old has been approached to join Russia’s upcoming matches against Egypt, Burkina Faso and Trinidad and Tobago.

Ibragimov has just returned from five months out with a broken foot and is expected to be part of the United squad for their FA Youth Cup final against Manchester City.

The midfielder is one of the most highly rated young players in United’s academy.

It is unclear whether Ibragimov will accept the call-up. He is yet to declare his international allegiance at senior level.

United sources say they are still to be informed by Russia of the squad selection, which has been confirmed elsewhere.

Born in Dagestan, Russia, Ibragimov moved to England with his family at the age of 11, and therefore qualifies for both countries.

The teenager has represented the Three Lions at Under 15 and Under 16 level, making his debut in 2023.

Russia have been banned from international competitions since February 2022 after the country’s invasion of Ukraine but have been playing friendlies.

Ibragimov trained with United’s first-team for the first time three years ago at just 15, and has continued to progress through the ranks.

He has divided his playing time between United’s Under-21 and Under-18 sides, having made the step up after impressing with the latter last season.

But Ibragimov’s injury struggles this term have limited him to just four goals and two assists in 15 appearances across United’s youth teams.

His elder brother, Ibragim, is a professional mixed martial arts fighter and regarded as one of the top prospects in the Professional Fighters’ League.

His younger brothers Gazik and Muhammad are both developing in United’s age groups, too.
