BOY George’s Eurovision dream came to an end tonight as the Culture Club frontman failed to make the final with San Marino.

The 80s icon had a cameo performance with singer Senhit, joining her towards the end of her performance of Superstar in Vienna, Austria.

Wearing a trademark hat resplendent with shards of mirror, George, 64, looked to be having a blast at the event and relished the party atmosphere.

He emerged on a throne and danced with a big smile on his face as Senhit sang the Euro club banger and pyro lit up the arena.

But when the votes came in at the end of the night, there simply weren’t enough to secure the tiny nation a place in Saturday’s showpiece.

There was no diva tantrum from George, who met the disappointing news with a smile and a wave. While Senhit, 46, was just as gracious in what was her fourth Eurovision attempt.

Reaction from viewers at home was mixed.

One said: “I think we’re heading for the worst Eurovision ever. We don’t even have Senhit and Boy George in the final.”

Another wrote: “Sad that San Marino didn’t get through I really liked the song & loved Boy George.”

But a third posted: “Objectively hilarious that Boy George failed to qualify for the Eurovision final… will always love Senhit but that song and that act deserved absolutely nothing.”

Questions were previously raised about George’s link to San Marino, but performers don’t need to be from the nation they’re representing.

In addition, George merely had a supporting role and was there to back Senhit.

The Eurovision veteran previously said of the Karma Chameleon singer: “He said absolutely I will be involved with you, and I will be on stage with you.”

George’s appearance followed his defiant stance about taking part in Eurovision despite a boycott that has seen Spain, Iceland, the Netherlands, Ireland and Slovenia pull out because of Israel’s participation, amid the continued conflict with Palestine and the wider Middle East.

But George, who was at the scene of the Golders Green terrorist attack a fortnight ago where two Jewish men were stabbed, believes Israeli singer Noam Bettan should be allowed to perform.

In an exclusive interview, he told The Jattvibe: “I feel sad about all the negativity because negativity isn’t really a word you associate with Eurovision.

“It’s really about something else. Don’t try to drag it down.

“I have a lot of Jewish friends, so my love for my friends is never going to diminish.

“You can’t blame an entire race of people for what’s going on in the world politically. You can’t blame Jewish people for that. It’s not fair.”
