Even as the Haryana government denied that there was any firing incident outside the Gonder village (Karnal) residence of Diljit Dosanjh’s manager, Gurpartap Singh Kang, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party has attributed “political motives” to the incident. The ruling party leaders in Punjab, from top to bottom, have gone all out to say that the incident did take place and that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has taken responsibility for it.“This has been done to pressure Dosanjh to join the BJP,” said several party leaders. Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, said that: “This Anti-Punjab BJP is basically running a protection racket from Gujarat. The moment Diljit Dosanjh made it clear he wants nothing to do with the BJP, his manager was targeted by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. And why does this gang operate without fear? Because the BJP keeps Bishnoi completely shielded from interrogation in Sabarmati. They are holding him securely so his gang can intimidate Punjabis who refuse to bow to them,” he said.A spate of AAP leaders, including ministers Gurmeet Singh Khudian, Hardeep Singh Mundian, and Lal Chand Kataruchak, joined the chorus and said Punjabis cannot be silenced by fear.“Diljit Dosanjh rejected the BJP offer… so the firing incident took place,” they said. The issue regarding Dosanjh joining the BJP cropped up on Saturday, after a citizens’ group, Jaago Punjab Manch, made a public appeal to Dosanjh asking him to take the political lead in the state. After The Tribune put out a story on whether Dosanjh was the political icon for Punjab, the global megastar Dosanjh responded to the story, saying he would never join politics.“Kade Vi nahin. I am an entertainer and my work is to entertain people. I am very happy in my field,” he had said in response to the story.
