Its “store rotation programme” aims to bring more food-based stores to high accessibility-areas in an expansion that means closures are happening.

Now, it’s been confirmed that more are set to go, including its Walton-on-the-Naze branch.

The Essex seaside town will say goodbye to its M&S in a move that has put around 50 jobs at risk.

The Foodhall opened back in 2018 on Walton’s Arthur Ransome Way.

After the summer season, doors will close for a final time, despite over 2,400 locals signing a petition to stop the decision.

Regular shoppers had hoped the closure could be avoided when it was proposed back in April, however the new update has confirmed it won’t be saved.

While bosses have explained that efforts are being made to redeploy as many staff members as possible to nearby stores, it’s understood that redundancies are likely to be made.

Will Holden, regional manager at M&S, told Colchester Gazette: “Since we shared our proposals last month, we have consulted with our colleagues and can now confirm that our Walton-on-the-Naze store will close.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has shopped with us at the store over the years and we will continue working hard to serve you over the coming months, and in future at our nearby Clacton Brook Park food hall.”

It’s also been confirmed that Aberdeen will also lose an M&S Foodhall.

After ten years, the Stoneywood branch will close in August.

Bosses have said that keeping the shop open is “not viable” and “doesn’t align” with their future visions for the M&S brand.
