Meet Abhijeet Dipke, the 30-year-old political communication strategist, who turned an offhand ‘cockroach’ comparison into India’s most viral satire movement: Cockroach Janta Party or CJP.What led to it?On May 15, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, during a court hearing, reportedly said: “There are youngsters like cockroaches, who don’t get any employment and don’t have a place in a profession. Some of them become media, some of them become social media, some of them become RTI activists, some of them become other activists, and they start attacking everyone…” The CJI later clarified he was misquoted and his remarks were taken out of context. For those of you who don’t know, between 2020 and 2023, Dipke worked with the Aam Aadmi Party on social media strategy and election campaigns. During the 2020 Delhi Assembly polls, he handled meme-driven outreach aimed at young voters.Soon after the ‘cockroach’ row, Dipke launched CJP as a full-blown satirical political identity. The party’s website calls it the “Voice of the Lazy and Unemployed Youth.” In less than a week — it had 12.7 million Instagram followers 1 lakh+ sign-ups on the CJP website.Meanwhile, the Cockroach Janta Party’s X/Twitter accounts have been withheld in India. ‘Why are they so scared of us?’ Dipke captioned his recent Instagram post.
