In a “closed-door” meeting that lasted about 20 minutes, Akal Takht officiating Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargaj and SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami held discussions over the anti-sacrilege law with Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Patshahi Daswi, Alamgir, in Ludhiana on Thursday.Jathedar Gargaj and Dhami informed Kataria about the objections of Sikhs regarding the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act-2026. They demanded a review of the anti-sacrilege law.Jathedar Gargaj also handed over a special letter along with a list of objections to the Governor. These objections had earlier been sent by the Akal Takht to the Punjab Government. The Akal Takht had also issued a 15-day ultimatum to the state government to remove the objectionable clauses in the Act.Speaking to the media after the meeting, Governor Kataria said a variety of comments and statements have been surfacing ever since the law came into being. He assured them of taking up the matter with the state government at the earliest.
