Products supplied in form of injectable preparation do not fall under the definition of cosmetics, India’s apex drug regulatory said in a public notice.“No cosmetic is permitted to be used as injection by consumer/professionals/ aesthetic clinics. Cosmetics are only intended to be rubbed, poured, sprinkled or sprayed to human body,” Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) said. The drug regulator clarified that cosmetics are products meant to be “rubbed, poured, sprinkled or sprayed on” on the body for cleansing or beautifying.“As per the provisions of labelling, no cosmetic may purport or claim to purport or convey any idea which is false or misleading to the intending user of cosmetics, misleading claims. Further, no person shall alter, obliterate or deface any inscription or mark made or recorded by the manufacturer on the container, label or wrapper of any cosmetic,” CDSCO warned. The CDSCO has recently cancelled the registration of skin cosmetic product Elementre – MD Peel-Tri AHA, imported by Telangana-based Glow Global LLP, alleging violation of certain rules under the Cosmetics Rules, 2020.
