Many residents of Wara Daraka village of Kotkapura area in Faridkot allegedly attacked two Junior Engineers (JEs) of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and left them with many injures following a disruption in power supply, while they were performing their official duties.As per the FIR lodged by the police, the gathering of the angry residents was led by the village sarpanch. According to police sources, the incident occurred following a power supply disruption.In a complaint to the police, Chanish Jain, Assistant Executive Engineer (Urban Sub-Division), PSPCL Office, Kotkapura alleged that the power supply of the Mana Wala UPS feeder, which caters to Wara Draka and Thara villages, shut down due to a technical fault.PSPCL JEs Mandar Singh and Harjinder Singh rushed to the spot to resolve the issue and successfully restored the feeder’s supply.However, after restoring the power, when both the JEs reached the 66 KV Grid Maur, they were cornered and violently assaulted by a gathering mob.The police revealed that the mob at the grid was actively led by Sarpanch Angrej Singh of Wara Daraka village. Along with the sarpanch, several other individuals identified as Karni Singh, Gurtej Singh, Satveer Singh and Arsi, along with an estimated 60 to 70 unidentified persons, were present at the scene.Taking swift action on the official complaint, the Sadar Kotkapura Police Station has registered a criminal case against the accused.The FIR has been registered under Sections 132 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 221 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 351 (Criminal intimidation) and 191(3) (Rioters armed with deadly weapon) of the BNS against the named suspects and the unidentified persons.
