Though scorching heat remained the talking point among the voters, elections to the Batala and Pathankot Municipal Corporations (MC) remained peaceful. The mercurial rise in temperatures compelled the voters to abandon their plans of exercising their franchise in the forenoon. In Batala, AAP MLA Sherry Kalsi is aiming to wrest the MC House from the Congress. The police had deployed extra security in ward no 35 where the legislator’s brother, Amrit Kalsi, is the mayoral candidate. Former minister Anil Joshi, who is the Congress in-charge for the poll in Batala, had issued an appeal in the morning asking the voters to remain peaceful. He also visited nearly a dozen polling stations and asked the electorate “not to get emotionally charged even if the rival parties tried to provoke them”.In Pathankot, DC Pallavi said polling, barring sporadic incidents, was totally peaceful.
