A day after locals allegedly attacked Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee during his visit to the Sonarpur area, another party leader Kalyan Banerjee was reportedly attacked in Chanditala, West Bengal, on Jattvibeday.Alleging the involvement of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the TMC claimed that Kalyan Banerjee was on his way to submit a memorandum at the Chanditala police station when he was attacked by the “BJP-backed miscreants.” The party further alleged that post-poll violence had continued unabated across the state, 26 days after the election results were declared.The party also shared a photograph on X, showing Kalyan Banerjee lying on the ground. Later, TMC chief and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the residence of the Serampore Lok Sabha MP and enquired about his health and well-being.The former CM said, “Those who believe that violence and intimidation can silence us have learnt nothing from history. Every attack only strengthens our determination to fight for truth and justice. We will not back down.”“Yesterday, BJP supporters brutally attacked and lynched Abhishek. Today, our chief whip in the Lok Sabha, Kalyan Banerjee, became a victim of a planned BJP attack. The BJP is murdering democracy,” she said.In protest against the alleged attacks on its leaders, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) will hold a series of rallies across West Bengal on Monday.In a separate programme, the party will stage a sit-in demonstration on June 2 at Rani Rashmoni Road in Kolkata. The protest will be led by TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee.Reacting to the incident, BJP spokesperson Debjit Sarkar questioned Kalyan Banerjee’s claim that he was attacked by the BJP workers. In a series of posts on X, Sarkar alleged that Banerjee’s reaction appeared “staged” and raised doubts over the sequence of events shown in videos circulating online.Sarkar claimed that despite allegedly being assaulted, Banerjee was seen falling to the ground while continuing to speak on his mobile phone without interruption. The attackers also reportedly attempted to assault him physically and raised slogans calling him a “thief” during the incident.
