A 26-year-old model from Delhi died after drowning in an abandoned stone quarry in Kerala’s Ernakulam district while reportedly scouting locations for a commercial shoot. The victim, identified as Divyanshu Joshi, had travelled to Kochi for a clothing brand campaign. The incident took place on May 28 at an abandoned quarry in Pettamala, where he had gone with a friend to assess the location.According to police, Joshi entered the water and is believed to have lost his footing before disappearing beneath the surface. His companion immediately alerted local residents, who informed emergency services.Rescue teams retrieved him from deep water and rushed him to a government hospital in Perumbavoor, where he was declared dead.Authorities said the quarry, unused for over two decades, is considered extremely dangerous due to its depth and previous drowning incidents. Warning signs had reportedly been installed, and local officials said no permission had been granted for any shoot at the site.Preliminary investigations suggest the location may have been selected after videos of the quarry gained popularity on social media.Days after the tragedy, the clothing brand Joshi was working with paid tribute to him, remembering him as a dedicated and valued team member. The company also clarified that he was in Kerala for a seasonal photo shoot and that swimming was not part of the production activity.Police are continuing their inquiry into the incident.
