The Ludhiana police have cracked the double murder case of elderly couple and arrested the nephew of the deceased woman.The accused was identified as Pardeep Singh (34), a resident of New Angad Colony, Ludhiana.The accused, who was a frequent visitor to the house of the couple, had not planned the murder rather he decided to eliminate the couple when he saw Rs 60,000 lying in a cupboard. The accused was in urgent need of funds to redeem a car that he had recently mortgaged.Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma shared details of the case at a press conference at the Police Lines on Monday.CP Swapan Sharma said Pardeep murdered the couple on May 28 at 6 pm. He struck Kuldeep Singh (69) and his wife Harmeet Kaur (71) on the head with an iron bearing, resulting in their deaths.The couple is survived by five daughters.The incident took place after Pardeep asked the couple to give money but when the couple refused, he struck both on the head with an iron bearing.The accused allegedly stole Rs 60,000 in cash from a cupboard, along with the earrings and bracelets worn by Harmeet. Police recovered the bearings believed to have been used in the murder. Before fleeing, the assailant locked the house from the outside and took two of Harmeet’s mobile phones.Investigators said the accused attempted to withdraw money using the deceased’s mobile phone, a move that ultimately drew attention to him as financial transactions came under scrutiny during the police investigation. He later returned and left the phone at the house.Notably, the bodies of the couple were found near their bed, both bearing severe head injuries. According to family members, they received a call from their daughter at 10:40 am on Saturday. Concerned that the couple was not answering their phones, she asked them to visit the house and check on them. The bodies were discovered two days after the murder.
