A NEW electric hatchback is now cheaper than its smaller sibling after becoming eligible for a £3,750 grant.
The top tier of the Electric Car Grant (ECG) is available for new electric vehicles priced under £37,000 to reduce upfront costs, encouraging motorists to ditch the diesel.

In good news for car owners, the Kia EV4 has now qualified for the Government-backed discount.
All three versions of the model are now eligible for the discount.
This means the EV4 technically undercuts the smaller Kia EV3 SUV, which is only available for a grant of £1,500.
Entry-level EV4 models – which cost £30,995 – come with all the basics you’d expect from a family hatchback as standard.

This includes twin 12.3-inch screens with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.
There is also adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.
The Motion model offers part-faux-leather upholstery, an electric driver’s seat and heated rear seats.
With the grant taken off, it costs £36,745.
It also has a 360-degree camera system, a wireless phone charger and a Harman Kardon stereo.
The Kia EV4 has a range of 273 miles, although for an extra £2,250, buyers can step up to a range of 338 miles.
