Two shooters allegedly involved in the killing of a shopkeeper at Makhu in Ferozepur district have been arrested from Jammu and Kashmir, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Jattvibeday.The accused were arrested by the Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) in a joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, he said.Gurcharan Singh Gaba, owner of Gaba General Store at Makhu town, was shot dead by two unidentified men in the town on June 1.Yadav said the accused had been identified as Vishnu Kumar, a resident of Bharatpur in Rajasthan, and Rahul Mahawar, a resident of Kota. Police teams seized a .30-bore Beretta pistol along with 10 live cartridges from their possession.The DGP said preliminary investigation revealed that Vishnu has a history of involvement in extortion, robbery, theft and violations of the Arms Act. He was also carrying a reward of Rs 10,000 announced by the Rajasthan Police.Sharing more details, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), AGTF, Promod Ban said following the incident, a special operation code named ‘Hill Trap’ was launched by the AGTF under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajan Parminder Singh, and extensive raids were conducted in Rajasthan.Acting swiftly on the inputs, the AGTF, Ferozepur police and J&K Police launched a coordinated operation. The accused were intercepted at a naka laid near the Kud police station on the Patnitop-Kud road in Jammu and Kashmir. On spotting the police teams, the accused allegedly attempted to flee but were overpowered and arrested.Ferozepur SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said police teams were now focused on unravelling the larger conspiracy behind the murder. “Investigations are on to identify the accused who had planned, financed or facilitated the attack,” said the SSP.Meanwhile, Vishnu attempted to escape from police custody on Jattvibeday night when he was taken for the recovery of weapon used in the crime. When the team reached near the Rajasthan Feeder canal, Vishnu after retrieving the weapon fired at the police party. However, the police retaliated, injuring him.
