The CBI has claimed that it has obtained fresh leads in the ongoing investigation into a corruption case registered on a complaint filed by Amit Kumar, State Tax Officer, Malout, allegedly involving officers of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau.The CBI, while seeking production warrants of two accused, Vikas Goyal and Raghav Goyal, stated that during custodial interrogation of accused Om Parkash Singh Rana, reader to the Director General of Punjab Vigilance Bureau, one mobile phone used by him during the relevant period has been recovered and is under examination.The agency said the evidence seized during examination of Om Parkash Singh Rana has generated fresh leads regarding communications exchanged among the accused persons, coordination of meetings, demand and collection of illegal gratification, and other aspects of criminal conspiracy.The CBI further stated that accused Rana needs to be confronted with the information during police custody along with accused Raghav Goyal and Ankit Wadhwa.The agency had arrested three accused — Raghav Goyal, Vikas Goyal and Ankit Wadhwa — last month in the case registered on Amit Kumar’s complaint.The complainant had alleged that a case was pending with Punjab Vigilance and that accused Vikas Goyal and Raghav Goyal facilitated his meeting with Rana in his office on April 29, during which Rana allegedly demanded Rs 20 lakh and a mobile handset.The CBI claimed that both accused were acting as intermediaries for the reader to the DGP Vigilance, Punjab, and were using their influence to assure the complainant that his matter could be settled.It was further alleged that Rana assured closure of the complaint once the bribe amount was paid. Rana later surrendered before the court after his anticipatory bail application was rejected by a CBI court.
