After facing widespread criticism over the recent NEET-UG paper leak, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has implemented extensive security measures to ensure the June 21 re-examination is conducted in a foolproof manner. In an affidavit submitted in the Supreme Court, the NTA said it had introduced multiple sets of question papers, with one set retained as a backup.Officials said “confidential operations” (CONOPs) guidelines had been implemented. Under this, a dedicated area had been carved out in office for confidential work, while question paper setters would be isolated in “insulated rooms” without internet or mobile access. However, the officials didn’t confirm whether the paper setters would be isolated till the day of the examination.Over five lakh security personnel would be involved in the operation, they said. They include police officers, home guard personnel, district administration employees and examination staff deployed at examination centres across the country. In order to strengthen monitoring, CCTV cameras will be used at examination centres. The authorities will also rely on multi-layer surveillance systems and artificial intelligence-based monitoring to detect any suspicious activity. The NTA informed the top court that a designated senior officer would oversee the entire printing process, and that the use of electronic devices had been prohibited. While the Indian Air Force will transport question papers, these would be escorted by the Central Armed Police Forces from the printing press to nodal hubs. India Post would then transport the papers to district custodians, and the district police would take these to examination centres, said officials.States are now actively involved in the conduct of major NTA examinations, as recommended by the Radhakrishnan Committee. Accordingly, State-Level Coordination Committees and District-Level Coordination Committees are functional and these played a key role during the NEET (UG) examinations in 2025 and 2026.The NTA had informed a parliamentary committee in May that they had introduced Aadhaar-based biometric authentication at examination centres for candidates.
