As questions over examination irregularities continue to resonate among students across the country, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Thursday launched what it described as a nationwide campaign seeking reforms in the education system and demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.Addressing a press conference in Pune, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke announced that the group would release its education manifesto later in the day alongside the start of a nationwide protest from the Savitribai Phule Pune University campus.Dipke said the protest would remain peaceful and be conducted within the framework of the Constitution. Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk is also expected to participate in the programme scheduled for the evening.According to Dipke, the education manifesto focuses on preventing question paper leaks, ensuring timely declaration of examination results, improving transparency in recruitment and entrance examinations, strengthening accountability of examination authorities and addressing difficulties faced by students due to delays and irregularities in examinations.Calling the campaign a national movement, Dipke said the initiative would travel from Pune to several cities, including Jaipur, Lucknow, Amritsar and Bengaluru, before culminating at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on June 20.“We will not return until we get the resignation of the education minister, who is responsible for jeopardising the future of more than one crore students,” he claimed.Dipke said the organisation remained open to discussions with the government but alleged that instead of engaging in dialogue, authorities were suspending the party’s social media accounts.“CJP is a big message for the country. The government cannot ignore the youth. Instead of calling us fake, try to understand the issues and problems faced by the youth in the country,” he added. The group has drawn attention in recent weeks through social media campaigns focused on examination-related issues and has sought to position itself as a youth-led platform advocating reforms in the education sector.Earlier this month, on June 6, CJP organised a protest at Jantar Mantar in the national capital, where students and young people from different parts of the country gathered to demand accountability over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations and press for Pradhan’s resignation.
