The Akal Panthak Morcha, which has the support of 19 members of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC), has accused the Union Home Ministry, Haryana Government, of failing to provide timely clearance to Sikh pilgrims wanted to visit Pakistan to attend the religious congregation marking the martyrdom anniversary of Guru Arjan Dev in Lahore. As per the Morcha, as many as 94 pilgrims of Haryana were stopped at Wagah Border on Wednesday due to non-availability of verification, which led to resentment among the members.Prakash Singh Sahuwala, president of Akal Panthak Morcha, alleged that the delay in issuing the security verification by the Union Home Ministry resulted in these pilgrims being stopped at the Wagah Border. He claimed that despite completing their preparations well in advance, the pilgrims were unable to cross the border due to administrative lapses.Sahuwala further said that the Haryana government did not submit its required verification report on time, which prevented the Union Home Ministry from granting clearance to the pilgrims. “Even though these pilgrims have valid visas, they could not go to Pakistan. The delay in forwarding the state report ultimately affected the issuance of the NoC, causing inconvenience and disappointment among devotees who had planned to participate in the religious event,” he said.He also criticised the office-bearers of the HSGMC, accusing them of failing to provide necessary assistance and coordination to the pilgrims. He alleged that the HSGMC leadership did not take timely steps to resolve the documentation issues or facilitate communication with the authorities concerned.Jagdish Singh Jhinda, president HSGMC, admitted there was delay in issuance of notification, but the government and the HSGMC made all efforts for timely verification, but could not make it. “Our team members also provided all kinds of help to these pilgrims, but despite our all efforts they could not cross the border to participate in the Shahidi Gurpurb commemorations,” he added.
