Footage shows the 27-year-old driver waking up in a state of shock, among screaming passengers.

Passengers abandoned the vehicle straight after the impact.

Emergency services including the fire service and police were deployed to the scene after bystanders raised the alarm.

First aid was provided to injured people on the scene.

The sleepy bus driver, known only as M.Ö, was taken into custody.

An investigation into the circumstances of the incident continues.

It comes after twelve people died and many more were left with serious injuries last year.

In December 2025, a bus crashed into the back of a lorry at about 55mph, on the highway linking Adana to Gaziantep, another city in southern Turkey.

The tragedy happened when the bus failed to avoid a collision with the already stranded lorry — which was forced to stop after one of its tyres blew up.

The lorry driver, who survived the crash, was subsequently detained, Arab News reported.

In April 2025, a family of five lost their lives, and eight people were injured, when a car crashed into a minibus.

The couple who was driving the car, alongside their three children, died at the scene.
