Police in Peru knew their drug dealer suspect was a football fanatic – and they used that knowledge to ensnare him.

One cartoonish head fell off in the frantic chase
Shocking footage showed the bobble-headed officers pound down the door before throwing off their animal heads and bounding up the stairs after the suspected drug smuggler.
The officers dressed as Maple the Moose and Clutch the Bald Eagle – the mascots of World Cup hosting nations Canada and United States.
The cunning disguise was hatched after intelligence work revealed that “the person we were about to arrest was a die-hard football fan, living and breathing the World Cup fever”, according to a police spokesperson.
“So, we proceeded to disguise my Green Squad personnel as World Cup mascots, in order to approach him without arousing suspicion and make the arrest.”

The blue and red mascots approached the wanted man – who did not suspect a thing.
Cops chased him down and busted open his apartment in Lima, the capital city.
Inside, they discovered a gun, a knife and a stash of drugs in a bin bag.
In one part of the video, a red paw appeared to swat a little pellet.

The fiend was battled to the ground and slapped in handcuffs.
The massive mascots did not arose the suspicions of the wanted drug dealer – despite the fact that Peru did not qualify for the global tournament.
They finished ninth out of ten teams vying to qualify in the American World Cup group.
Peruvian police are notorious for their outlandish disguises and eye-catching raids.

Elsewhere in South America a team of crime-busting power rangers arrested a phone snatcher in the midst of a carnival.
Cops mingled with other revellers wearing costumes of comic characters including Robin and Batman to catch the suspect.
Footage showed the a swarm of cops pin down the thief near Ibirapuera Park in the city of São Paulo.
