It came a matter of hours after Michael Buble and Alanis Morissette took to the stage as Canada hosted their first showdown of the tournament.

And Perry was expected to entertain the 70,000 fans with some of her biggest hits, like California Gurls and Firework.

But she only performed one song – a little-known album track called Wonder – alongside ten-year-old Norwegian musician Tius Luka.

World Cup fanatics rushed onto social media to slam Perry and complain they wanted more.

One disgruntled viewer said: “What a trainwreck of a performance. She sounded terrible.”

Another added: “Get this s*** out of here.”

A third chimed in: “This sucks.”

A fourth chose to slam the music star’s look, noting: “Hilarious dress.”

Perry also raised eyebrows when she was spotted sporting a Canada pin during the opening ceremony, which raised eyebrows.

She is dating politician Justin Trudeau, the former Canadian Prime Minister.

And Perry branded him the “love of my life” when they appeared together on the red carpet earlier this month.

USA made a stunning start to the World Cup and are already in a strong position to reach the knockout stages.

An own goal from Damian Bobadilla put Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the driving seat within seven minutes.

Folarin Balogun then bagged a brace to give USA breathing space heading into the second half.

Mauricio reduced the deficit for Paraguay, but Gio Reyna restored the three-goal lead in stoppage time.
